wide open

sweep the broom against the hardwood floors

hear The Beatles through the kitchen door

watch dust between the curtains in the late sunlight

pretend it’s like before when everything was alright

you know that when the sun sets it won’t be the same

the darkness in the windows will begin to change

you’ll turn on the lamp, but light bulbs fade

you’ll be left seeing shadows in the shape of your name

maybe this is the night you’ll decide to forget

leave the window wide open by your empty bed

chase the demons in the dark that won’t leave you be

find the things you’d forgotten that will set you free
